More Branch Lines of Britain
23,49 €
The British railway network consisted of 20,000 miles of track, which 23,000 locomotives ran on, whilst pulling 73,000 carriages and also 1.4 million goods wagons throughout the country. The rail network was managed and operated by 130 individual companies.
Britain’s branch lines were essential for villages and towns in the countryside for links to the cities, and delivering supplies for industrial sites, such as factories and power stations.
With the demise of heavy industry and the development of cheap motor cars, many branch lines have closed. This second collection of 3 DVD s is part of a nationwide tour of many of these branch lines, some long since closed, some still in limited operation. It clearly demonstrates how important Branch Lines were to the industry and commerce of the British nation
