Happy Mondays: Call the Cops
7,49 €

Happy Mondays are a legendary rock band from Manchester who, alongside the Stone Roses, defined the 'Madchester' sound. Formed in 1980 by the Ryder brothers – Shaun (lead vocals) and Paul (bass), other members include Mark Day (lead guitar), Gary Whelan (Drummer), and Paul Davis (Keyboardist), with Mark Berry aka Bez and Rowetta Satchell joining later. The Happy Mondays blended hip hop and house rhythms with '60s psychedelia and '70s funk to create a unique brand of music that proved popular on an international scale and became the soundtrack to a generation.
'Call the Cops' captures the band during their glory days and gives a fascinating insight into the lifestyles of the 24-hour party people. Filmed in 1990, this DVD follows the Happy Mondays on their first tour of North America, in support of their best-selling album 'Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches', and features footage from The Sound Factory in New York as well as behind-the-scenes material from Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and Boston. Tracks include 'Step On', 'Kinky Afro', 'Do it Better', 'Hallelujah', and 'Wrote for Luck' amongst other fan favourites.
Featuring cameos from Keith Allen and the late Tony Wilson, as well as urban montages and close-up shots of Shaun Ryder singing, with Bez and Rowetta twisting and writhing around him on stage, this is the ultimate Happy Mondays experience and is an essential purchase for fans of the 'Madchester' sound. (John Minard)
If you like the Happy Mondays you may also want to check out the Stone Roses, New Order, and 808 State.
