In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the BBC broadcast a series of television programmes called Railway Roundabout, featuring train lines which proved to be on the point of closure and locomotives that were about to disappear forever.
This archive film footage has been transformed by Ian Allan and is now available as nine separate Railway Roundabout DVDs, all superbly recreating the lost age of steam!
Most of the programmes were British but a number dealt with railways in Europe ranging from Finland to Yugoslavia. This fascinating DVD takes in scenes filmed by Patrick Whitehouse in Northern Europe. Featuring the very best of French steam (Cotes du Nord, Reseau Breton, Vivarais, P.O. Correze and main line Pacifics), steam trains in Rotterdam, main line steam in Germany, the beautiful rack and narrow gauge railways in Switzerland and the best of Finnish steam, featuring the route from Helsinki to the Arctic Circle.
